The purpose of this website is for you to improve your Urdu so that you can follow along when listening to a complex conversation. You do not need to be able to read Urdu for this website.

I will read out loud poems, news articles and other selections. This first audio recording will translate the difficult words of each selection in English as I read along in Urdu. Once you feel you know the words, a second audio recording of the same selection will be read only in Urdu for you to test yourself.

Below is an example from the Poetry section to explain what I mean.

Tanhai (Loneliness) by Faiz Ahmed Faiz (from the Poetry Section of this website)

In a few short verses, Faiz poignantly conveys the emotion of loneliness to the reader. At the end of the poem, the reader feels a deep sympathy for the poet. Loneliness has come to him like a long lost friend, and together they drink and wait for the moon to rise so that a lost loved one’s memories shimmer over the shadows of dusk and ease his pain

The first audio recording will translate the difficult words in English as I read along.

Once you feel you know the words, the second audio recording will be only in Urdu without any English translations.
